It can be hard to manage a dress code, especially when you want to express yourself through your makeup or tattoos. The good news is that if you are creative enough, you may be able to get a bit of your sense of fashion and style in. Sometimes, you do have to be creative to pull it off, though.

Tips for Expression

Take a look at a few of the fun ways you can express yourself. Even when a dress code is in place, there are ways to work around it.

  • Know the limits. Find out what the dress code is. Read it. If you have questions, ask them so there is no confusion later on.
  • Choose clothing items that fit your fashion sense but do not break the rules. For example, choose makeup in the colors you like, but do not wear too much of it, if that is not allowed.
  • Are you struggling to find something that works? If you cannot find clothing that fits your sense of style, create your own. Creating your own clothing can be a fun learning experience. Learn how to do it so you can allow your expression to come through.
  • You can learn to make everything from baby costumes to prom dresses and even clothing for your toddlers that fit your style, even if there is a dress code to follow. You can also find a variety of products ready-made through specialty providers online.

Having fun with your clothing is something you can often do. However, most of the time, doing so in a way that does not offend others is important.

Making a Fashion Statement

Every person is unique, and as a unique person, you are entitled to make any fashion statement that you like. The clothing that you wear, the way that you style your hair, your piercings and tattoos, and every other aspect of your physical appearance can come together to create any fashion statement of your choosing.

How you display your fashion sense is ultimately up to you, but you should be aware of the fact that you can really say a lot about who you are. When you wear name brand clothing such as LRG Clothes or style your hair in a trendy way, you are giving the people around you a little bit of insight into who you are. You are making a statement or sharing a message with what you are wearing and how you conduct yourself visually.

Fashion is an art form, a medium through which you can tell people about who you are, or share a specific message. Use hair styles, hair colors and cuts, accessories and shoes, purses, tops and bottoms, and other aspects of your fashion sense to create a message, whether that message is to set a trend or following one. It is simply important to realize that you can treat clothing as more than simply staying warm or covering up in a comfortable way. What you wear can also be used to create and share messages, to lend insight into personality, to set trends and to follow trends depending on how you are feeling that day.

The world of blogging is growing and it is becoming more important for women and men to have an outlet. Many have opinions and information to share about a wide variety of subjects. For the fashionable man and woman, starting a blog might be logical step in creating their voice. The only problem is that in the cyberspace world, getting an audience for your fashion blog is much easier said than done. There are millions of people all over the world who have a voice, so getting the rest of the world to find your voice is not always easy.

If you are interested in getting your readership up, then you need to consider a new and inventive approach. This means using survey software as a part of your blog in order to get the blog in the direction it needs to go. For instance, everyone might be writing fashion reviews of celebrities on the red carpet. That’s a niche that everyone seems to have covered, so breaking into that market could be an issue. However, through the use of customizable online surveys you might find that there are plenty of people who have stumbled upon your blog and were hoping to find information about how to copy that red carpet style for less. You might find out that what people are interested in is not the fashion of celebs but how to remake that fashion for pennies on the dollar.

Once the research is in you can start gearing your blog to a niche market and watch your blogging numbers grow. People will be attracted to that niche market. From there you can begin to start looking into advertising on your site and you can think about getting in guest bloggers and making your blogging brand grow. But all of this starts with feedback and that starts with a good survey.

So You Want To Make a Fashion Statement

We see fashion statements almost every day. We see it from celebrities in magazines, our peers, and sometimes random people. You’re ready to make a fashion statement of your own. What can you do to make a statement? What if you’re having trouble with your fashion statement because you don’t have the money? Whatever the reason, if you want a way to make a cheap, easy fashion statement, you may want to consider a piercing.

If this sounds like a good idea, you want to first consider where you want this piercing. If you’re searching for a true fashion statement you want it to be noticeable, and not just the design of the jewelry. You want your piercing to stand out.

Surface piercings are probably the easiest piercing when it comes to fashion statements because you can put them anywhere you want. You want to place it in a comfortable place, though, where it won’t get in the way or catch on things easily. For example, if you, for some reason, wanted to pierce a place on your arm, it may get in the way of your clothing and easily catch on long sleeved shirts. Try putting it somewhere you can more easily control it.

Another type of piercing you may consider is a double piercing. Many people have double piercings in their ears, so that won’t really make you stand out very much, but if you, for example, double pierced your nose, you would most likely stand out much more.

You don’t even have to have a new piercing to stand out. A simple piece of jewelry can help you stand out significantly. For example, you can put a funky nose ring in, but if your nose isn’t pierced, you may have to spend the money on that before you buy a nose ring.

The choice is yours. If you don’t like the idea of piercings, try something else such as a crazy hair cut. The best way to stand out is to be different, so be creative and come up with something different.

Make a Statement with an Over Sized Accessory

A great way to add a little edge to your look is to add something oversized. Taking a t-shirt and jeans, a sweater over leggings or a simple summer dress and adding something disproportionate makes an ordinary look stand out.
An easy piece to oversize is your bag. Oversized bags have gone in and out of style over time, but they always stand out. When adding an oversized bag as an accessory, go with a bag in a bold color. Make sure it stands out as a fashion piece, not because you can fit your entire life inside of it. Be careful of using an extremely large bag if you are short as if may make you look much shorter.
Another option is to add a large piece of jewelry. Avoid the usual diamonds and pearls and go for something more out of the ordinary. Try a set of giant plastic bangles or a stack of thick necklaces. If you seek out boutiques or the websites of small designers, you can find some truly unique jewelry such as knitted necklaces, bold fabric necklaces or jewelry made from recycled objects. You might try creating your own by stringing large beads on strips of old fabric. Just be careful that it looks creative, not just crafty.
Also try using oversized pieces in your hair. You can add a large bow, a bold scarf or a brightly colored flower. Often you can find these decorative pieces at a craft store or an accessory store. Find a decoration you like at a craft store and simply hot glue it to a clip or a headband to make your own accessory. Try adding a bright colored flower to a white or black outfit and adding white or sheer flowers to a brightly colored outfit. Remember, even when the accessory is bold, it is still meant to add to the outfit, not overtake it!

Try a Vintage Blouse

If you’re hunting for a outfit that will stand out this summer, look no further than your local thrift store. They are a treasure chest of pieces that may look a bit similar to things you once saw in your grandmother’s closet.
Most good thrift stores will have a wide assortment of silk or polyester blouses, the type you may see elderly women wearing under suit jackets to church. Don’t be discouraged by where they came from! Search for just the right one and it can be an excellent addition to your wardrobe. Look for one that is made from real silk and has not taken a lot of ware. Also look for fun flowered patterns or a neat ruffle around the chest, collar or sleeves. For summer, look for a light blue, white or eggshell color that is easy to accessorize.
Once you find some patterns you like, try them on for a good fit. Though the original owner may have worn it tightly fitted, you may want to find one that fits loosely and drapes. Think of it more like a peasant top than a buttoned down fitted shirt.
It’s what you wear the top with that will take it from Grandma’s closet to the beach or the bar. Pair this flowy silk top with a pair of high-waisted black or dark-wash jean shorts, tucking the top into the shorts and pulling it out partly to exaggerate the bulk of the shirt. You can add a thick belt around the shorts to extenuate the waistline. You might also try a flowered miniskirt or leggings on the bottom with the shirt untucked. Wear with a pair of metallic flats or ankle boots for a more dressy look. For accessories, consider adding an oversized floppy hat or a large flower to the hair.

Mixing Prints

One way to make a statement is to break those standard rules of fashion that the average person learns to follow. One basic rule is to always pair a print with a solid. We use this rule when dressing for the office, for example pairing a patterned blouse with a solid skirt. Men use prints on their ties to add to a solid colored dress shirt. These rules are fine to live by in a work setting, but if you want to make a statement this weekend, try breaking the rules and pairing a print with a print.
Flower prints are great to pair with each other. You can match a blouse with a subtle flower print with a miniskirt that has a bright and bold flower print. Look for skirts that have thick stripes and pair them with printed tops. Add a large, solid colored belt to add a line of separation between the two. You can also do the opposite and a pair a striped shirt with a mini-skirt that has a flower pattern.
Many prints are done in a slightly different shade of the same color as the garment and these are great to pair with other prints that mix colors. If you are apprehensive about mixing prints, try a subtle print first.
There are many ways to pair prints and even a few rules to follow when you do. Don’t be afraid to mix flowers with stripes or stripes with plaid. The general reason that we learn not to mix prints is that they often compete with each other, so by choosing to mix prints you accept that they will be competing. Knowing this, try to limit what else the prints compete with. This means using colors that work well together and limiting accessories. Stick to metallic accessories and go for solid colors when choosing a bag or shoes. Above all, be confident in your outfit!

Get a Bold Cut: The Curly Mohawk

It is easy enough to add an exciting accessory to an outfit, but to truly stand out among the fashionable, you have to be willing to do something bold. To make a statement with you hair, go beyond the accessories and get a cut that demands attention.
Are you willing to let go of some of your locks? A great style to try with curly hair is a modified mohawk. Have you stylist part a section of hair about two inches wide down the center of your head from the forehead all the way to the neck. You can play around with different sized sections, but remember to start larger as you can always go thinner. Trim the remaining hair on the sides down to the head. You can also use a trimmer to buzz the hair to an even length. With the remaining section of hair, trim it to the length you desire. If you hair curls well, you can leave the hair two to three inches long and then style it to curl. Be sure not to leave the hair too long. Think of a traditional spiked mohawk when the hair stands straight up on the head. You can achieve the same effect with the volume of the curls, as long as you don’t cut them so long that they fall to the sides. Leave the front section a bit longer so that the front curls can fall towards the face.
Use a strong gel or mousse and twist curls around your finger to tighten them up. For a truly defined look, allow the curls to dry naturally and then go over each curl with a curling iron. This will decrease the frizz and give you perfect curls. Once your curls are complete, you can style them so that they fall to one side in the front.
Take a risk and try this look; you will be certain to draw some great attention!

Take Your Lingerie Out of the Bedroom

Looking to make a statement? Mix something sexy and risque with a simple outfit to get some attention while still staying classy. You can make a basic outfit a little sexy by adding lingerie!
Lingerie has some very distinctive features such as lace edges, shiny little bows and semi-transperant elements. Traditionally, it is strictly meant for the bedroom and it’s quite taboo to wear it in public. You may think that your lingerie should be reserved only for your most intimate moments with your significant other or is meant for places like a strip club where women use it to attract sexual attention, but if you are willing to take a risk you can add it to your everyday wardrobe. You can harness this mystery combined with sex appeal, but put it to use in a way that doesn’t look cheap or trashy.
For a fairly safe outfit, use a lacy top instead of a camisole under a low-cut sweater or t-shirt. This tiny lace accent is just enough to hint at what may be hiding underneath. If you are feeling a bit more bold, wear your favorite top from you lingerie collection with an open cardigan over it. Add a tank under if the top is sheer. You can decide how much you are willing to reveal by buttoning all of the buttons, only the center button, or leaving them completely undone. You can also take this look from day to night by replacing the cardigan with a shrug, a scarf or simply adding a sparkly necklace.
Try buying a lacy nightie specifically to wear for a night out. Choose a style that is a bit longer or less sheer. You can always add a slip underneath and a pair of black tights to make it a little more conservative.
However you decide to wear your lingerie, don’t be afraid to take it out of the bedroom to catch a little extra attention.

Get a Great Fit

The truth is, it doesn’t matter how wonderful the outfit is; if it doesn’t fit well, it doesn’t look good. This is a simple fact that can make or break any outfit you put on. Every single person has their own unique size, shape and measurements and these are the most important things to consider when piecing together your wardrobe. Whatever you wear, be sure to get a great fit.
Often the clothes you pick up off the rack in the store will not fit you perfectly. Particularly if you have a unique size or any unusual features to your shape, finding a great fit right off the rack may be unheard of. This is why a good seamstress or tailor can be your very best friend. As long as an item of clothing is close to a good fit, a few alterations can take it from “good” to “great”.
When purchasing items that you intend to have altered, don’t ever buy them too small. The simplest rule of sewing is that it is easy enough to take away but nearly impossible to add. You can have sleeves and pants shortened. This is the most commonly used alteration, especially for those who are shorter than average. You can also take in the waist of a dress or the back of a jacket. This can be used to extenuate a waist line or to make a piece that is a bit too big fit just right. You can also reduce the size of hips, shoulders and the chest area with just a few simple stitches.
You will find that it is useful to have a good relationship with the person who does your alterations. Ask their advice about the fit of clothes and where they can make improvements. Count on them to be honest about pieces that simply cannot be improved. Overall, invest in a good fit- it’s worth it.
